Learn how to onboard new customers with Gelato Connect

Updated over a month ago

Onboarding new customers can often be complex and time-consuming. Gelato Connect simplifies this process, enabling you to add new customers and integrate their orders quickly and easily. This guide will show you how to create new customer accounts, set up integrations, configure triggers, and manage orders efficiently.

Step 1: Adding a New Customer

To add a new customer:

  1. Click Create Customer: In Gelato Connect, click the Create Customer button.

  2. Enter Customer Details: Provide a name for the customer and proceed to set up the necessary integration details.

Step 2: Setting Up Connectors

Connectors allow the customer’s storefront to communicate with Gelato Connect.

Here’s how to set them up:

  1. Choose the Connector Type: Select the connector type (SiteFlow or Gelato API, Gelato API is the most common one).

  2. Generate Access Keys: Create the connector to automatically generate a Key, Secret, and Endpoints (order submission and cancellation).

  3. Share the Information: Provide the customer with the Key, Secret, and Endpoint details. This information is documented within Gelato Connect, and customers can use it to set up the integration on their end.

Step 3: Configuring Triggers

Triggers automate notifications sent to the customer at different stages of the order process.

  1. Add Trigger: Go to Triggers and click Add Trigger.

  2. Select Events: Choose the events you want to notify the customer about, such as order received, shipped, produced, or delivered.

  3. Select Delivery Method: Set the notifications to be sent to a URL or an email.

  4. Use Templates: Gelato Connect provides templates that make it easy to set up triggers for common order events.

Step 4: Setting Up Lookups

Lookups convert incoming data from the customer’s storefront into a format Gelato can process.

  1. Map Product Data: Map the storefront’s product IDs or SKUs to Gelato’s unique identifiers (UIDs) to ensure accurate data transfer.

  2. Automate with CSVs: For efficiency, automate SKU mapping using a CSV file to handle large volumes of products at once.

Step 5: Managing and Viewing Orders

Once onboarding is complete, orders from the customer’s storefront will flow into Gelato Connect.

  1. View Orders: Go to Manage Orders in Gelato Connect to see all incoming orders, regardless of their origin (e.g., Shopify, Etsy).

  2. Order Details: Access order specifics such as packages, print jobs, shipping methods, product UIDs, and artwork.

  3. Answer Customer Queries: With all orders centralized, you can quickly respond to any customer questions about order status or details.
