This article discusses the two primary strategies for grouping orders into batches within Workflow Builder: Standard and Conditional. It outlines how each strategy works, their use cases, and provides step-by-step instructions for implementation.
Standard Batch Strategy
The Standard batch strategy is the default option for grouping orders. It creates batches based on predefined attributes.
How it Works: All items in a batch share the same characteristics defined in the Batch by section. For instance, if you group by
coating type
,color type
, andpaper type
, the batch will only include items with identical values for these attributes.Use Case: This strategy is ideal for grouping orders with similar production requirements, regardless of the specific product model. For example, a batch could consist of various flat products (e.g., posters, flyers) as long as they all utilize the same paper and coating.
Conditional Batch Strategy
The Conditional batch strategy provides more control by allowing specific constraints on the composition of batches.
How it Works: In addition to the attributes defined in Batch by, you can set Batch item limits to impose granular conditions. This enables you to limit the quantity of specific items within a batch based on their context values.
Use Case: This strategy is beneficial when you need to restrict the number of a particular product model in each batch.
Example: For instance, if you are producing phone cases, you can use the conditional strategy to create batches that contain a limited number of cases for a specific phone model.
Configuration:
In the Batch activity, select the Conditional strategy.
In Batch item limits, define your constraints.
Specify the context value you want to condition on (e.g.,
model
).Enter the value from the context (e.g.,
iPhone
orSamsung
).Define the maximum quantity per item to be included in the batch for that specific model.
By selecting the appropriate batch strategy, you can enhance your production workflow to align with your operational needs, whether you require simple attribute-based grouping or detailed, item-specific control.
