Sorting posters for default box numbers

Learn how to efficiently sort poster orders to streamline your production process

Updated over a month ago

This article outlines the most efficient method for sorting poster orders to ensure a streamlined production process.

Matching Orders with Default Box Numbers

GelatoConnect Workflow offers two methods for managing matching orders (Box orders):

  1. Default (Pre-allocated) box number: This is the default and preferred method for efficient production of paper products.

  2. Dynamically allocated box number: This method assigns box numbers at the pack station when scanning the print job.

Using the default box number method provides the best sorting efficiency for posters. This article explains how to set up your production configuration for optimal poster sorting.

Setting Up Production Configuration for Optimal Poster Sorting

To ensure the best sorting experience for your production team, apply the following settings in Production Configuration for Paper products/Posters. These settings are specifically for sheet-fed posters:

  • Remove divider sheets: This arranges the box numbers in ascending order.

  • Combine Single and Multiple/matching in the same file: This allows for multiple items per plate.

Steps for Efficient Poster Sorting in Production

  1. Gather all stacks of posters from the cutting process.

  2. Arrange the stacks in ascending format order, placing them upside down.

  3. If using the "Singles and matching in the same file" imposition, separate single posters (without box numbers) from the bottom of the stacks. These can be sent directly to packaging/dispatch.

Example of single poster info (no box#):

Example of multiple posters in one box info (with box#):

  4. Begin sorting from the bottom of the smallest format stack, which will have the lowest box number for all stacks. The backside of each poster indicates the box number and additional formats to be included.

Examples of how box# is indicated and the formats in the box:

  5. Collect all posters with the same box number and prepare them for packaging.

  6. Organize the sorted posters into three categories for the packaging team:

    1. Ready for packaging: Complete boxes with all items indicated for that box.

    2. Waiting for additional items: Boxes missing a wide format poster or a poster with a different paper type.

    3. To be framed: Posters indicated with the framing logo.
