For products like photo books or framed posters that consist of multiple physical parts, Gelato now offers a simplified packaging configuration: Unified Scan. This allows packaging stations to recognize a multi-part product with a single scan, applying the scan status across all components automatically.

What is Unified Scan?

Unified Scan is a feature that ensures consistency in packaging and dispatch for multi-part products. By applying a special tag during product setup, all components of a product are treated as a single entity during scanning, streamlining warehouse operations, and reducing handling errors.

For example:

  • Without Unified Scan: Each photo book part must be scanned separately at the packaging station.

  • With Unified Scan: Scanning one part updates the status of all parts automatically.

How It Works

The packaging:unified-scan Tag

To enable this behavior, a tag called packaging:unified-scan is applied to your product model.

Once this tag is set:

  • The system automatically applies unified scan logic.

  • Scanning any one part of the product during packaging marks all parts as scanned.

How to Enable Unified Scan

Step 1: Apply the Tag on Product Creation

When adding or updating a multi-part product via the Gelato Product Platform:

  1. In the product model form, enable the Unified Scan option if your product is multi-part.

  2. This action applies the packaging:unified-scan tag automatically.

Note: This option is only available for products identified as multi-part. It will not be shown for single-part products.

Step 2: Update Existing Products (if applicable)

If you already have multi-part photo book products live, ensure they are updated to include this tag:

  • Use the UpdateModel or AddModel endpoints to apply the packaging:unified-scan tag to existing product configurations.

Step 3: Enable Multipart Feature Flag

  • Go to Feature Configuration and enable 'Packaging Multipart' feature flag

Feature Availability

  • The Unified Scan configuration is currently behind a feature flag.

  • To enable it for your account or tenant, please contact support or reach out to your Gelato representative.

FAQs

Q: What happens if the tag is not applied?
A: The product will default to requiring each part to be scanned separately.

Q: Can I use this for single-part products?
A: No. The tag and its configuration option are only available for multi-part product models.
