This guide will walk you through the process of adding or updating barcodes for products in your inventory. You can either generate a new barcode directly within the system or add your own existing barcode.
This functionality is crucial for ensuring your products can be easily scanned and processed at your packaging station.
Accessing Your Inventory
First, you need to navigate to your inventory list.
On the main menu, click on Inventory Management.
Select Inventory from the dropdown menu.
You will now see a list of all your stock-keeping units (SKUs). This includes products synced from Gelato Create and any products you have manually added via Connect.
Adding a Barcode to a Product
You can add a unique barcode to any SKU that doesn't currently have one.
Scroll through your inventory list to find the product you wish to update. For example, a product like "Acrylic" might show that a barcode is not available.
Click on the settings icon (⚙️) or menu associated with that SKU.
Select the Add Barcode option.
You will now have two choices:
Generate Barcode: Click this to have the system automatically create a new, unique 13-digit EAN-13 barcode for your product.
Paste a Barcode: If you already have your own EAN-13 barcode, you can paste it into the provided field.
Note: The system currently only supports the EAN-13 barcode format.
Click Add to save the new barcode. You will now see the updated barcode displayed next to the SKU in your inventory list.
Special Case: Products with Existing Barcodes (e.g., Frame Products)
Some products, particularly those synced from Gelato Create (like specific frame sizes), may already have a barcode assigned to them on the backend.
However, if you are sourcing this product from a different supplier or simply wish to use your own barcode for internal tracking (e.g., for Connect orders), you can still add a new one.
The process is the same:
Find the SKU in your inventory list.
Go to the product's Menu and click on Add Barcode.
Generate a new barcode or paste your own EAN-13 barcode.
Click Add.
How does this work at the packaging station?
When you scan the product at the packaging station, the system is smart enough to check for both barcodes:
The new barcode you just added.
The original backend barcode from Gelato Create.
If either barcode matches, the item will be successfully identified, allowing you to proceed with packing the order.
