This article provides a comprehensive guide on configuring apparel product models, focusing on the differences between the new and old product models, workflow settings, and mandatory requirements for successful setup. It aims to assist users in understanding the necessary steps and considerations for effective workflow configuration.
Understanding Product Models
Apparel products can utilize one of two distinct product models:
New product model — supports hybrid print technologies and techniques on a single product (DTG, DTF, Embroidery combined).
Old product model — supports only one print technique per product (DTG, DTF, or Embroidery).
Most DTG printers do not support decorative print areas (sleeves, inner/outer neck labels), so a DTF heat-press is used alongside DTG for those areas.
All workflow steps are configured in the Workflow according to the customer’s needs.
Master templates can be used as a starting point for Workflow configuration for new PSPs. These templates appear as recommended workflows when creating a new product model for your apparel product. More details can be found here.
Preparation Steps
Clarifying the Product Model with the PSP
Storelink (storefront) orders → new product model
GelatoCreate orders → old product model (for now)
Clarifying the Machines Used
DTF (old product model) — which heat-press machine?
DTG (old product model) — which DTG printer? Do they have a separate pre-treat machine, and which one? If decorations are handled separately, which heat-press machine?
Embroidery (old product model) — which stitching machine?
New product model — clarify all of the above, since this workflow handles hybrid technologies on a single product.
After clarifying, machines should be added to the Machine Park and later selected in the Production Step Activities in the Workflow.
Imposition Activities
Imposition Activities pull imposition templates from the master templates. Ensure they fit the customer’s needs. Imposition templates are currently used for Job Tickets and DTF file generation.
Workflow Settings
Old product model — only the related technology/technique should be selected from AttributeMapping → GarmentPrint.
New product model — the correct SKUs should be selected from the list of Customer Products.
Make sure to save and publish the Workflow after modifying the Workflow Settings.
JS Activities to Update per PSP
Print Plates
Each customer has their own print plates, usually provided by the printer supplier. These print plate sizes are used to adapt the image size and calculate offsets. They are usually based on the Garment Cut, Product Size, etc.
For the new product model — print plates are mapped based on the product SKU, which is currently hardcoded in the Workflow Activity.
JSON Configs
Each JSON config should contain a list of supported machine IDs with the print area file configs. Please update the list once the PSP has added the supported machines to the machine park.
DTG Printer Settings
DTG printer settings usually differ per printer model — make sure to update KSF/XML generation accordingly. We are currently in the process of moving KSF/XML configuration to the Machine Park, but not many customers have it generated yet.
Setting Up KSF Files per Product
Brief Loom intro: https://www.loom.com/share/49962ce1c3a74fdea077d4e10020cc27
Navigate to Machine Park → your Kornit machine → Edit → Configuration
Set up all the KSF profiles needed (e.g. “Crewneck light sweatshirt”, “Small coloured hoodie”, or “Gildan 5000 white”)
Navigate to Product Models → your apparel product → Customer Products and select the product type (e.g. “Gildan 5000”)
Navigate to Machine Configuration and select the machine (e.g. Kornit Avalanche HD6)
Add the rules (e.g. “Gildan 5000 XXS–XS” or “Gildan 5000 coloured”) and select all colors in the dropdown
Once all KSF configs are set up properly, switch to the new Workflow: pause the old Workflow and publish the new one.
Mandatory Requirements Before Configuring the Workflow
Before starting Workflow configuration, ensure:
The required machines are added to the Machine Park.
The SFTP connection is configured under Workflow Settings → Connections.
The Product Model is configured (old or new product model).
