Overview

This article walks you through using an InDesign file as the basis for a personalisable product, so you can reuse print-ready templates you already maintain. By the end you'll have imported an InDesign layout into the design editor.

Prerequisites

  • You can access the product in GelatoConnect Store Link.

  • You have your InDesign file exported as IDML.

Step 1: Open the design editor

  1. Open the product in Store Link and click Edit designs.

Step 2: Import the InDesign file

  1. In the left toolbar, click Files.

  2. Click Import InDesign and select your IDML file. The editor reads the layout, including text frames.

Step 3: Make it personalisable

  1. Switch to the Personalize tool and turn on the layers customers can edit, applying labels and field rules (required, character limit, conditional reflow) as needed.

Step 4: Review and save

  1. Confirm the layout renders correctly and fixed elements stay locked, then save.

Note: IDML import lets you reuse existing templates instead of rebuilding designs — useful when migrating products from tools like XMPie.
