Understanding the Sorting Station
Updated over 3 months ago

The sorting station helps keep track of packages containing multiple print jobs, making it easier to manage and monitor their status. This guide explains how the sorting station works and how it streamlines the packaging process.

Why Use the Sorting Station?

When packages include multiple print jobs, the sorting station simplifies tracking by grouping these jobs and showing their statuses.

  • Example 1: If a package contains two print jobs, the sorting station will display one print job (marked in green) as scanned and ready for packaging, while the other remains waiting to be scanned.

  • Example 2: Once both print jobs have been scanned, they will appear as marked in green and ready for packaging. Scanning one of these print jobs will initiate the quality checks.

Sorting by Box Numbers

The sorting process is driven by box numbers, which help group print jobs for packaging.

  • Default Box Number: Assigned automatically based on the order.

  • Dynamic Box Number: Assigned when a print job is scanned either in the sorting station or the dispatch overview.

All print jobs within the same package are given the same box number.

Dynamic Box numbers: Configuration

  1. Adding a New Box Group

    1. To create a new box group, you need to:

      • Provide a name, a "from" number, and a "to" number.

      • Set the box group as active or inactive.

Important: Ensure the "from" and "to" numbers don’t overlap with other box groups. For example, if a Canvas box group has a number range from 1 to 25, creating a new box group for mugs starting at 20 will trigger an error due to overlap.

  2. Box Group List

    1. The list of available box groups displays their current status (active or inactive), capacity, and allocations.

      • To free up space, you can use the “free box group” option to clear the allocated packages and print jobs from the box group.

  3. Preferred Box Group

    1. By selecting a preferred box group, the system will prioritize box allocation from that group. If no box number is available, the system will assign one from another available group via API.

Process Overview

After configuring dynamic boxes, the workflow is as follows:

  1. Scan a print job in the dispatch overview or sorting station.

  2. The system will assign a box number and initiate a quality check.

  3. In the sorting station, the package will display as ready for packaging after one print job is scanned, while it waits for the second print job to be scanned.

  4. Once all print jobs are scanned, the system will run the final quality checks.

  5. After quality checks are completed, and the last print job is submitted, the allocated box number will be cleared.
