Overview

This article walks you through grouping your storefront products into categories and subcategories so customers can browse logically, and controlling the order they appear in. By the end, your products will sit in a clear category structure.

Prerequisites

  • You are logged in to the Admin Panel as a store admin.

Step 1: Create a category

  1. Under CONTENT, go to Categories and click Create Category.

  2. Enter a Name. The Slug (URL) is generated for you and can be edited.

  3. Leave Parent Category as None (top-level category) for a main category, or choose a parent to make this a subcategory.

  4. Optionally add a Description and an Image, then click Create Category.

Step 2: Set the category order

  1. On the Categories list, drag top-level categories to set the order they appear on the storefront. Subcategories stay under their parent.

Step 3: Add products to a category

  1. Go to Products > Purchasable and open a product's Edit screen.

  2. In the Categories section, select one or more categories for the product and click Save Categories. A product can sit in multiple categories.

Note: In a corporate store, category membership also controls visibility — members of the groups assigned to a category will see the products in it.
